Taiacore Artist Profile

Madrid-based band ‘Taiacore’, are a indie-folk duo made up of Marta Tai and Vincenzo Tancorre. The pair have been writing and performing their own material for at least 4 years now and have gathered quite the following, not just in Madrid, but all over the world.

They started gaining international popularity after their European tour following the release of their debut album ‘Innocent’ in 2016. The band are continually racking up huge live shows in Italy, Berlin, Madrid and lots of other places, so they’re totally hungry for success!

‘Innocent’ was a ground-breaking success for the band. Their rock-infused outlook on folk music, created a rebellious, outspoken image of Taiacore. They showed people that folk music can be very, very powerful. ‘Innocent’ has modern musical elements in some songs, such as heavy bass vibes, electric percussion, reverberating vocals and female ‘baddie’ orientated lyrics, speaking of lost love and being ‘bad’. However the band stayed true to their folk roots, by combining banjos and acoustic guitar through the album.  The vocals on all of their tracks are also sung in English, however with a distinctive accent, which is quite beautiful to hear. Their first album reminds me heavily of Fink and KT Tunstall’s music.

However the band’s more recent music has taken a lot more of a electronica-pop vibe. Their latest single ‘All I Need’, is a lot more focused on the electric guitar and a pixellated, synth sound of a keyboard. In ‘All I Need’ I get the impression that the band are straying away from banjos and acoustic guitars and making a more tampered with sound, rather than a raw one which is (in my opinion) what ‘Innocent’ is.

Their album and singles art for ‘Innocent’ also follows a vintage, victorian cartoon format. Almost like the original Beatrix Potter books. However the newer singles have vibrant pop colours with images of Tai and Tancorre on them. I think the band may be stepping in a very modern direction!

Nevertheless, Taiacore are an extremely talented pair of musicians with an interesting sound. I love how they acknowlege traditional and contempary elements of music in all of their tracks. The future holds geat things for this pair.
